Haber Law Expands Commercial Litigation and Real Estate Practice with Hiring of Multiple Prominent Partners
Harold (“Hal”) Lewis and Jessica L. Kopas join the Firm as partners, and Matthew Holtz joins as an associate.
MIAMI, Fla. — May 5, 2022 – To accommodate a significant increase in business thanks to the Firm’s success following the recent, and continued, mass migration of businesses and residents to Florida, Haber Law is expanding by adding two partners and one associate, as well as support staff. Lending and transactional attorney Harold (“Hal”) Lewis and Broward County commercial litigation attorney Jessica L. Kopas are joining the Firm’s roster of partners. Matthew Holtz joins as an associate in the Firm’s Real Estate and Transactional Law Practice Group, for which Mr. Lewis will serve as Chair. Ms. Kopas will be a partner in the Complex Business Litigation Practice Group.
Mr. Lewis comes to Haber Law from Pathman Lewis, LLP, where he was a founding and co-managing shareholder. Mr. Holtz was an associate at the same law firm. With more than thirty-five (35) years of experience, Mr. Lewis practices in several areas with particular emphasis on real estate, finance and corporate matters including real estate and asset-based financing, acquisition and development, leasing, condominium, and the design and implementation of ownership structures including partnerships and limited liability companies. He writes for several nationally recognized title insurance companies and lectures extensively to the South Florida business and legal communities.

Mr. Lewis’ history of complex commercial real estate and lending transactions will strengthen the Firm’s ability to handle large and complex transactions in multiple asset classes including multi-family, office, industrial, hotel and residential.
“Hal is one of the premier real estate and transactional attorneys in South Florida and his joining the Firm is a game-changer for the practice group,” said David B. Haber, Managing & Founding Shareholder of Haber Law. “Hal and I started our legal careers together in the late 1980s, and I am extremely pleased to welcome him back as my partner. As for Matthew, I have known him for most of his life. He was previously a law clerk at our Firm. He is well-connected in the Miami community, and it is a pleasure to have him aboard again.”

Ms. Kopas was previously a partner at Conrad & Scherer, LLP in Ft. Lauderdale. Her extensive trial and arbitration experience expand upon Haber Law’s established litigation practice. Ms. Kopas has successfully litigated several high-profile cases involving a nationally publicized billion-dollar South Florida Ponzi scheme centered around falsified structured settlements, as well as various cases involving bank fraud. Over the course of her practice, Ms. Kopas has advocated for the interests of her clients, including Fortune 500 companies, in a wide variety of disputes both in and out of court.
“Jessica is well-known as a fierce advocate and brilliant attorney with an excellent reputation. We are also very impressed with her continuing commitment to public service in helping mentor students in the underprivileged community of Broward County,” Haber shared.

In addition to the new attorneys, paralegals Marlin Perez and Evelyn Morejon-Daher, along with legal assistant Lori Vergara, will join the Firm.
“Florida accounted for almost 12% of the nation’s business growth in 2021,” said Haber. “Real estate development and construction in South Florida remains on the rise, with new condominiums, office buildings and retail shops being developed rapidly to meet the insanely high demand. The real estate market is simply on fire. Development and construction will logically give rise to many more construction disputes. Additionally, with the influx of new businesses and notable financial firms to South Florida, business disputes and litigation will be on the rise. The net effect of all this economic growth on the practice of law is a corresponding increase in demand for legal services in each of our Firm’s four core practice groups. The Firm is perfectly situated to expand to meet the needs of existing and new clients.
Haber continued:
“Years ago, our Firm made the decision to strategically focus on our four core practice areas. That decision is now paying dividends. We look forward to adding these new power players to our team, and our vision for the Firm is to continue expanding our presence in other Florida markets.”
