SAR HONORS NEW INDUCTEES AND DONORS AT FUNDRAISER FOR NEW MUSEUM

 Louisville Fundraiser reunites Hamilton descendant with Hamilton love letter

Louisville, KY –On August 28, 2021, several new members were inducted at a fundraiser held at the Sons of the American Revolution’s (SAR) national headquarters in Louisville, Kentucky. The SAR is in the process of constructing a new state of the art museum. Donors who have played a major role in this ongoing process were honored and thanked for their generosity.

The SAR was also pleased to be able to reunite a descendant of Alexander Hamilton with several rare Hamilton artifacts which were on display courtesy of Seth Kaller, Inc., a nationally recognized expert in acquiring, authenticating and appraising rare historic documents and artifacts.

Among the rare Revolutionary Era documents on display was a love letter written by Alexander Hamilton to Elizabeth (Eliza) Schuyler on August 8, 1780. At the time, Hamilton was simultaneously courting Eliza, sorting military intelligence, and planning an attack on New York City to recapture it from the British. Ultimately, the decision was made to redirect forces, march south to Virginia, and surround General Cornwallis in Yorktown.

Other rare artifacts on display included:

• American Flintlock Fowler used by Pvt. Beriah Murray at Fort Ticonderoga in 1777
• Pocket Watch belonging to Major Thomas Massie of Virginia
• A Revolutionary War era “Hessian” spontoon bearing the cypher of Frederick II

The following also attended:

• Stephen Henry, one of the nation’s leading orthopedic surgeons and a former Lieutenant Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky
• Heather French Henry, a former Miss America and a former Second Lady of the Commonwealth of Kentucky
• Nick & Nina Clooney, parents of actor George Clooney. Nick is a journalist and television anchorman, and brother to the late Rosemary Clooney.

The newly planned museum and education center will be located along “Museum Row” in historic, downtown Louisville. The SAR Museum seeks to create an immersive visitor experience and will feature digital displays, large-scale multimedia productions, and interactive galleries.

The SAR is a non-profit, educational, historical and patriotic organization, formed in 1889, and chartered by the U.S. Congress in 1906 (36 U.S.C. Chap. 1533).  This Congressional charter was signed by President Theodore Roosevelt, who was a member of the SAR. The charter charges the SAR, among other things, to encourage research and study of the American Revolution, and to acquire and preserve the records, documents, relics, and landmarks of the American War for Independence (36 U.S.C. § 153302).
